I was 12 years old when my mother taught me how to use her sewing machine her mother had given her when she left home in the early 1950s. I continued to use this sewing machine throughout my adolescence and when I was 17 my mother bought me a new sewing machine. Everyone has sewing machine stories, they are exchanged as I sit, make shirts and listen to everyone's sewing machine stories.
