Barbara and David Stone's Bookshelf

My parents Barbara and David Stone met in 1950 when my mother was doing her English degree as evening classes at Brooklyn College in Greek Mythology and English Literature. Both my parents came from poor, Jewish families and at the earliest possibility they left Brooklyn to find a new life. They loved reading and the majority of these books they purchased throughout their lives together. I grew up looking at these book spines, and my earliest memories are being constantly encouraged to read. This 14’ x 12’ painting is a portrait of my parents, their work in theatre and film and their absolute love of art and culture.
