Eugène Atget Shoebox Rooms

Well known for his thousands of photographs of Paris at the turn of the 20th century, Eugène Atget also took photographs of Parisian interiors. When I saw Sherrie Levine’s feminist appropriation of his specific images, I realised I wanted to make them also, as miniature constructions using paper and card and hand painting all the details of pots, vases of flowers, rugs, candelabra, mirror reflections and sunlight. My appreciation for her politics translated into my love of making things small, intricate and detailed.
